Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.
Antonio Pecorelli is a painter who draws considerable inspiration from the Impressionist aesthetic. This applies both to his subjects, who are often elegant bourgeois ladies in late 19th-century cities, and above all to his painting technique, which is based on hatching. Pecorelli's hatching, however, has a unique and highly recognizable characteristic: it is composed partly of semicircular strokes that, when concentrated, contribute to a more humid and vaporous atmosphere.
Antonio Pecorelli is a painter born in 1939. In his artistic production he has mainly executed late 19th-century city scenes with his particular impressionist-inspired technique.
