Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In these works, artist Alfio Presotto demonstrates his desire to create a highly complex pictorial layering. The subject and the space within are constructed through broad brushstrokes that, positioned on different planes, create a multifaceted surface. Chromatically, Presotto confirms his excellent technique, creating a tonally coherent atmospheric quality. This unity is interrupted only by the evocative sliver of light coming from the clouds on the left.
Alfio Presotto is a Venetian painter born in 1940. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and, in 1960, joined the Realism group in Milan. He has exhibited his paintings in numerous shows and festivals throughout Italy and beyond. In 1969, he exhibited at the USALBA exhibition in Milan, at the Salotto Rossini in Pesaro in 1970, and at the Salon Art Libre in Paris in 1974. In 1975, he exhibited at the Art Gallery of San Francisco and from 1989 to 1992 in Bergamo. In 2001-2002, he exhibited at Expoart in Montichiari and at Contemporanea Arte Forlì. In 2000-2002, he exhibited at the Galleria D'Ambrosio in Brescia, and in 2002 he participated in the exhibition “Il corpo e lo sguardo” at the Palazzo Ducale di Revere, Mantua.
