Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.
In this painting, Alberto Bolzonella reveals his connection to the historical French avant-garde. The overall structure of the painting shows strong similarities to Matisse and Fauvism, due to the extreme synthesis of the subject and the predominance of strong, aggressive color tones. On the other hand, the entire spatial organization exhibits a typically Cubist decomposition; the setting is deconstructed according to multiple directives, and a complex intersection of planes composes the painting's surface. The carnivalesque theme and the suggestion of masks are also clearly inspired by Picasso.
Alberto Bolzanella was born in Padua in 1934. He works in the Veneto region in the Figurative Current and Abstract Current, and is President of the Padua Figurative Arts Association "Ars Tabulae Pictae." Alberto Bolzonella completed his studies at the "P. Selvatico" State Art Schools in Padua and the "Pilotta" State Art School in Parma, graduating. He also earned a diploma from the State Art School in Florence. He attended the State Art Academies in Florence and Venice. He taught art subjects in state schools for approximately forty years. He currently teaches Drawing and Painting for the Padua City Council.
