Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Walter Mank's landscapes are always characterized by a wide shot that encompasses vast expanses of space. This allows the painter to exploit his skill in exploiting the tonal values of color. The spatial organization of the scene is achieved through gradual chromatic transitions that define distant objects. Everything is perfectly integrated into the clear, sunny atmosphere, thanks to the artist's painting technique.
Walter Mank is a landscape painter who has a very traditional and classical conception of landscape painting.
