Valentino Marra - Blue Orchid

In some ways, the work can be considered a Pop aesthetic, with its use of icons from contemporary times and mass culture. However, Valentino Marra's work explores further, more aesthetically than conceptually.

Valentino Marra's image is iconic, it invades the surface of the painting, occupying the entire composition. But this artist's reflection on the massified icon departs significantly from the conceptual principles of Pop Art. Marra isn't interested in a critique of consumerism, or the value of art in the age of mass-produced techniques; for Marra, the pop icon has a purely aesthetic value. And it is in this direction that the painter's artistic language pushes. The famous face becomes a pretext, and its form, sculpturally captured by the painter, merges into an elegant composition of sinuous shapes and pure colors.

Valentino Marra, painter and sculptor, was born in Martano in 1956. He has exhibited his work in numerous shows in Italy and abroad, achieving considerable public and critical acclaim. He has created several altarpieces, but his work is primarily associated with reproductions of female icons, which are included in numerous public and private collections.
