“The definition of Conceptual Art dates back to the mid-1960s and was used for the first time by Joseph Kosuth , an American from Ohio, who examined the relationships between language and art according to logical and analytical schemes with the intention of proposing an art form that no longer aims to produce aesthetic enjoyment, but rather to define the activity of thought, to communicate a concept, to initiate in the spectator a process of reflection on the very notion of art, on its relationships with reality, on the system of the context in which it is placed. The concept of art expands and changes, spilling over into the philosophy of art, psychoanalysis, and current issues. The conceptual artist does not aim to create objects or works of art, but rather to create ideas, discourses, and reflections in a logical representation that must necessarily exclude every emotional component, every representative ambiguity to which art, especially avant-garde art, had accustomed us, in order to acquire the precision and unequivocal rationality of science.

If the work of art coincides with the analysis of language and the artistic system and is no longer the result of an intuitive method, but of an analytical-scientific method through which to communicate a concept, outside of any form of referentialism, then the expressive means that can be used for the purposes of this communication are absolutely free.”
