In this work, Francesco Campese reinterprets Piero della Francesca's Madonna and Child with Saints, removing the sacred figures and allowing the architecture itself to take center stage. The solemnity of the structure, enhanced by the play of light and shadow and by delicate, layered brushwork, becomes a metaphor for an eloquent void, where the absence of bodies opens up a dimension of silence and contemplation.

In the background, a distant and enigmatic landscape emerges like an inner vision, a memory or an echo. The painting thus belongs to Campese's broader exploration of art history images, where he investigates what remains beyond the narrative, transforming pictorial space into a poetic experience of absence and presence.
