Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Umberto Levi is a painter who knows how to imbue landscapes with a delicate and soft atmosphere. The entire surface of his paintings is united by a humid and enveloping haze in which objects blend effortlessly. This painter's great technical skill stems from his study of Impressionism, from which he borrows the rapid, cursive hatching. But a fundamental contribution comes from his revival of the great tonal tradition of Venetian painting. Indeed, space and light are determined by subtle chromatic passages aligned with a predominant color.
Umberto Levi is an artist born in Verona in 1930. He is a painter who focuses primarily on landscapes of his region. His highly lyrical and poetic style is the result of a blend of Impressionism and the Venetian tonal tradition.
