Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a focus on space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then on atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally on the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. Tullio Bartoli is a Tuscan painter, essentially a landscapist. His subjects are tied to his land, and it is the Tuscan countryside, therefore, that takes center stage in his works.
Tullio Bartoli is a painter who throughout his career has been tied to the great Italian and, in particular, Tuscan pictorial tradition. His work can be defined as modern-Renaissance, not without reason, since there is in this artist a great sense of naturalistic rendering. The subjects come to life interacting softly with the space through a light and blurred glazing technique. The spatial conception, on the other hand, is solid and rational, but, at the same time, based on the tonal values of color. The color palette, for its part, also participates in this great effort of naturalistic rendering, allowing the light to enhance the volumes and forms of the subjects. However, in this “Pescheto,” although the high sense of naturalistic rendering inherent in Bartoli's painting remains, we notice a more impressionistic approach. The pictorial rendering of the landscape is rapid and immediate, typical of an en plein air pictorial conception. The application is characterized by quick touches of color that build the landscape. In the tonal consistency of the pictorial surface, the bright pink of the peach trees stands out.
Tullio Bartoli is a Tuscan painter, born in 1922, who has devoted himself above all to the landscapes of his region. In his controversial biography, he is also known for having made copies of Ottone Rosai, De Chirico, and other nineteenth and twentieth-century painters. This only serves to confirm his great pictorial technique, of certain academic training and inspired by a classically-inclined pictorial tradition. The works of Tullio Bartoli, in fact, stand out for their perfect naturalistic rendering and the overall harmony that binds all parts of the work together.
