Apotropaic sunset

Mixed-media artwork, composed of a glass bas-relief and a tempera background.
A slightly rippled and transparent glass plate, with a raised orange texture and a sugared surface, overlays a monochrome watercolor-style tempera painting. The glass and graphic elements together present an apotropaic symbol, with the colors of the sunset over the sea. In particular, the crystalline orange texture alludes to lace, as a symbol of protection and beauty.
Framed in black-painted wood. Unique piece.
