Star of 2000 - Ipzs

The Stella 2000 commemorative medal was created by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato for the Jubilee of 2000. The piece, in 22-carat gold with a set diamond, was modeled and designed by Laura Cretara, the first woman engraver at the Italian Mint, renowned for her artistic contribution to national numismatics. The twenty-sided shape recalls the twenty centuries passed since the birth of Christ. The obverse depicts the Good Shepherd, inspired by an early Christian sculpture, a symbol of guidance and salvation. The reverse features Christ’s monogram superimposed on the floor plan of St. Peter’s Basilica, surrounded by a crown of wings bearing the dates of all the Jubilees from 1300 to 2000. The piece combines technical excellence and symbolic value, making it an example of fine art publishing and a testament to the turn of the millennium.
