Stefano Bolcato - Men and Women

The iconography of this work, like much of Stefano Bolcato's work, is inspired by the world of Lego bricks. Bolcato uses this popular, cult-like influence to bring his ironic and captivating works to life. His favorite subjects are Lego-inspired reinterpretations of famous works or social satire (as in this case).

Stylistically, Stefano Bolcato's work can undoubtedly be classified as hyperrealism. His painting is entirely objective, coupled with extraordinary execution. These characteristics are so developed that Stefano Bolcato's works actually go beyond hyperrealism. In works like this, the conception of space, the rational exaltation of plastic values, and the reflections of light, almost seem as if the artist has created, with brushes and paint, a digital image. There is therefore also a reference to pop aesthetics in adapting the pictorial medium to contemporary media (a similar approach to what Roy Lichtenstein did with comics).

Stefano Bolcato is a Roman artist born in 1967. Self-taught, he later graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Avanessian and Arcangeli. His research, which encompasses painting, photography, and video, focuses on the creation of metaphysical atmospheres with a focus on social issues and an ironic reinterpretation of cultural heritage.
