Under the shadow of the buildings

At the heart of the painting, a sun-kissed beach unfolds, but the joyful atmosphere is quickly overshadowed by the growing presence of skyscrapers rising ever closer to the sea. This bird's-eye view offers a striking glimpse into a reality where the once open and bright coastline is now in danger of being obscured by the imposing presence of buildings.

The advancing skyscrapers cast menacing shadows on the beach, seemingly advancing toward the sea, reducing the space available to beachgoers. However, Remoto's critique doesn't stop there. Through his expert brush, he paints a satirical portrait of modern urban planning priorities. The buildings, massively intruding on the beach, boast luxurious pools and balconies overlooking the sea. A biting metaphor for the self-centeredness of governments and society, which often care only about building profits without considering the negative environmental consequences.

But the true natural protagonist of the painting is an immense whale, visible only from above. This living being, the only natural element in a landscape dominated by concrete and glass, becomes the personification of nature's fragility and beauty. The whale becomes a symbol of resistance and, at the same time, a warning against the arrogance of urbanization and development.

Through his painting, Remoto offers a profound reflection on urban planning decisions and their impact on everyday life. With his background as an architect specializing in urban planning, the artist offers a unique and ironic perspective on the reality of modern cities. The painting invites reflection on the need for a more sustainable approach to urbanization, suggesting that a beach shaded by buildings could prove meaningless and devoid of value for the community.
