Silvio Formichetti was born in 1969 in Pratola Peligna (Aq). His early works depict female nudes and landscapes of the Abruzzo hinterland. His interest in informal painting began in the mid-1990s. He became interested in Pollock, American Action Painting, and Dova , Afro , Vedova , and Hans Hartung . In 1999 he moved on to sign and gestural abstraction and in 2011 he was invited to the 54th Venice Biennale – Italian Pavilion curated by Vittorio Sgarbi. In Italy, his exhibitions include: various participations in the “International Contemporary Art Exhibitions” of Sulmona (various editions from 1999 to 2016); personal exhibition at the Palazzetto dei Nobili in L'Aquila, catalogue edited by Carlo Fabrizio Carli and XXX edition of the “International Art Exhibition of Sulmona” (2003); National Museum of Abruzzo in L'Aquila curated by Leo Strozzieri and Pierpaolo Bellucci and Diocesan Museum “Francesco Gonzaga” in Mantua, curated by Maurizio Gioia and Carlo Micheli (2007); Michetti Museum in Francavilla al Mare, with critical texts by Silvia Pegoraro and the XIII Stauròs Biennial of Sacred Art, Museum of San Gabriele, Isola del Gran Sasso (2008); “ Chromophobia”, Ex Aurum in Pescara curated by Silvia Pegoraro (2009); in 2010 at the Colonna Museum in Pescara, his works were placed alongside those of Mario Schifano in the exhibition “Silvio Formichetti – Mario Schifano. Darkness. The Border of Colour” curated by Luca Beatrice. The exhibition project with art critic Luca Tommasi took place in 2006: Silvio Formichetti's works were exhibited at the National Museum of Musical Instruments in Rome and in 2007 at the fifteenth-century Refectory of the National Museum of the Palazzo di Venezia in Rome. In the summer of 2010 he created the exhibition “Icons of the Invisible” curated by Silvia Pegoraro at the Civic Museum of Sulmona. Also in 2010 he held a solo exhibition entitled “Labyrinths of the Soul” at the Palazzo Guicciardini of the Province of Milan in the Lombard capital, with critical texts edited by Giovanni Faccenda. In 2011 he was involved in the personal exhibition at the Chiostro del Bramante in Rome “Dialogue with the infinite” curated by Giovanni Faccenda, subsequently in Albenga in the prestigious context of Palazzo Oddo with a personal exhibition curated by Paolo Levi entitled Alphabets of the soul. In 2012, at the Opus Gallery in Grottammare (Ap), he presented The Big Rip, curated by Giarmmando Di Marti, and subsequently in Cassino (Frosinone) at the Teatro Manzoni, a solo exhibition titled "Succisa Virescit," curated by Simona Pace and Roberto Franco. The exhibition recounts the atrocities of the Second World War experienced in the Lazio town, from the bombings to the reconstruction. Silvio Formichetti will inaugurate his solo exhibition entitled “Bulgarian Visions” in Sofia (Bulgaria) in June at the National Gallery of Modern Art, and his solo exhibition “Chromatic Architectures” in Varna (Bulgaria) at the Graffity Art Gallery, curated by the Italian Cultural Institute. In 2013, Silvio Formichetti had two major solo exhibitions. The first was in Terni at the Galleria Canovaccio , and the second at the Galleria Civica in Padua with "Energheia." Both exhibitions were highly successful. Silvio Formichetti's solo exhibition opens in Brussels at the European Parliament in November. The exhibition "I sentieri dell'anima" (Paths of the Soul) opens in the Altiero Spinelli Building – "Espace Cheval" in Brussels. Curated by the artist, the show features around twenty medium-format works created specifically for the event. In 2014, Silvio Formichetti was in Pescara with “Inferno. Allegories of Consciousness.” The solo exhibition was held at the splendid Aurum – Fabbrica delle Idee. “Opere,” an exhibition of historical works, was curated by Lucia Arbace at the Taverna Ducale in Popoli (Pescara). In September, he participated in the 41st Sulmona Prize in Sulmona (L'Aquila) . In 2015, Silvio Formichetti entered the publication PRAESTIGIUM ITALIA II , the prestigious catalogue that follows Luciano Benetton's international collection “IMAGO MUNDI Luciano Benetton Collection” , exhibited with a solo show in Berlin at the InArt Werkkunst Gallery and was part of the contemporary artists at the 44th parallels group show in Albenga (GR). 2016 kicks off with "Evolution of Silence," a solo exhibition in Umbertide (PG) at the splendid Rocca. The exhibition is curated by Anna Amendolagine. She participates in the 43rd Sulmona Prize in Sulmona (L'Aquila) . In 2017, on the occasion of the bimillenary of the death of “Ovid” , he presented a solo exhibition of 15 large-scale works in the evocative complex of the Civic Museum of the SS. Annunziata in Sulmona entitled: “Omnia Mutantur” . Also in 2017 he participated in the 44th edition of the Sulmona Prize. In April 2018 he was awarded the Certilux Award for “Made in Italy” art. “The silence that screams” Ascoli Piceno is the exhibition from 7 July to 2 September 2018. The exhibition is curated by Stefano Papetti with a preface by Vittorio Sgarbi. From 22 September to 6 October , Silvio Formichetti will be exhibiting “Vulcanico” at the Contempo gallery in Pergine Valsugana (Trento), curated by Anna Amendolagine. From November 3 to 24, 2018, Silvio Formichetti will be exhibiting at the Villa Brivio Cultural Center in Nova Milanese (MB) . The exhibition "Informal Encounter" is curated by Architect Antonio Lombrado and Professor Cristina Buraschi. In 2019, he was selected for the first edition of the exhibition "I mille di Sgarbi" in Cervia (RA) at the Magazzini del Sale. The selection, exhibition, and catalog are curated by Vittorio Sgarbi. From May 31 to June 9, 2019. He exhibits at the CristianoArtGallery, Samo Collection, Ars Interamna – Pignataro Interamna (FR) with “ AB IMO PECTORE” and participates in the 46th Sulmona Prize. In 2019 he presented 15 works at the M2 Art Gallery in Naples, curated by Massimo Carpentieri. In 2020, the exhibition continues despite the challenges inherent in COVID-19. Participate in the 25th Cimitile Prize at the Paleochristian Basilica Complex in Cimitile, alongside the giants of Italian painting, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Raphael's death, curated by Giuseppe Bacci. The solo exhibition at the Civic Gallery of San Donà di Piave entitled SILVIO FORMICHETTI “IN” curated by Alain Chivilò. In June 2022 he exhibited in Grottamare (Ascoli Piceno) with the solo exhibition “The Spacing of Thought – from the Danish Diary” curated by Professor Giarmando Dimarti.
