In this majestic seascape, Tihi expresses the purest form of his textured, structured expressionism. The composition develops horizontally through the tight geometric rhythm of the five boats, whose dark, massive silhouettes stand almost like a barrier in the foreground of the work.
The color palette is dominated by the cool atmosphere of cobalt blues, azures, and grays in the background, evoking the clear or twilight light of a Nordic or Balkan port. This cool chromatic fabric is broken and enlivened by violent strokes of white paint applied with a palette knife to the cabins and edges of the boats, as well as by touches of emerald green and brick red that brighten the hulls. The masts of the boats, rendered with quick, nervous vertical strokes, draw the composition upward, linking the water and the sky in a single, tormented emotional landscape.
