Scintu - Still Life

The “Still Life” genre emerged at the beginning of the 17th century. It consists of depicting compositions of inanimate subjects, in most cases flowers or fruit. While at the beginning of its history it provided painters with an opportunity to attempt a naturalistic or photographic reproduction of reality, in contemporary art “Still Life” also becomes a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as will happen, for example, in Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the profound exploration of objects will be aimed at a conceptual representation, taking it beyond the mere sensory data.

The pictorial language of the artist Scintu is distinguished by a search for essentiality and simplicity in representation. In Scintu’s vision, sensory reality undergoes modifications in an expressionistic sense. These modifications are identified, first of all, in a reduction of drawing details in favor of a composition that is expressed above all through the application of color. From a chromatic point of view, it should also be noted that Scintu’s palette consists of extremely vivid colors, full of light and on the edge of natural truth. In this sense, we can state that Scintu’s entire pictorial practice is characterized by a very naive narrative verve that leads him to describe the world in a creative and imaginative way.

The painter Scintu is the protagonist of a very original production based on the expressionistic qualities of color. His style is characterized by a very lively and imaginative interpretation of reality, defining him as a predominantly naive artist.
