Sasha Lohno Orloff - Russian Scene

The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the representation of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, has no significant elements. This type of domestic subject matter was long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art from the seventeenth century onwards. It was only with the development of nineteenth-century realist movements that everyday subjects were considered to be of the same importance as historical or religious ones. The Russian-born painter Sasha Lohno Orloff specializes precisely in the production of genre scenes inspired by a romantic and nostalgic vision of life in his country of origin.

Given the spontaneity and freshness of the subject, an anecdotal scene taken from everyday life, Sasha Lohno Orloff always tries to maintain the same immediacy in the execution. Although the work is generally extremely figurative in character, the graphic execution, determined by short and quick strokes, emphasizes the immediate nature of the episode. In Sasha Lohno Orloff's style there is the same freshness and liveliness of an illustration, full of curious details, with the execution quality of a work of art.

Sasha Lohno Orloff is a Russian-born painter born in 1947.
