Description of the work
Description of the work
Since the 19th century, when painting began to explore various aspects of bourgeois life, the circus world has been a theme explored by various artists. During the 1970s and 1980s, it became a true genre, practiced by many painters, who focused their attention primarily on the figure of the clown.
Romano Mussolini's paintings have a consistently recognizable artistic language. The figures are delineated by sharp outlines, while the color is always light, sometimes reaching a heightened painterly quality with highly expressionistic effects. Thus, the figures appear almost dematerialized within a two-dimensional surface, conveying a sense of extreme lightness.
Romano Mussolini, born in Forlì in 1927 and died in 2006, was a primarily figurative painter who focused primarily on genre subjects such as clowns, horses, and landscapes. His compositions display a simplicity of line and color.
