Renato Dorigatti - Paris Square

The subject of the cityscape was already present in the Medieval and Modern periods, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting from the 19th century. We recall how, immediately after the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also gave great importance to the everyday, to daily life, with a certain predilection, however, towards the frenzy of the city, the crowd, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.

Renato Dorigatti's urban views stand out for his personal and highly recognizable style. Dorigatti interprets his views with a very realistic nature, attentive to details and curiosities. The execution, however, takes place through a compact application in order to create a composition that resolves in a play of colored planes. Dorigatti's color, moreover, is very textured, useful to convey the idea of the atmosphere, the heavy air of the metropolis.

Renato Dorigatti was a Veronese painter, born in 1914 and passed away in 1975. He was an artist specializing in urban views, which he creates with a very textured pictorial execution. The compositions resolve in an interlocking of planes, almost as if the city views were broken down into colored panels.
