Raffaele Maietta - Bosco

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Raffaele Maietta's landscapes are characterized by a sense of the sublime in the face of nature, but in a more intimate form. His works are often conceived as large vistas in which the human presence, small and solitary, seems almost lost in the center of the work. He achieves this with a keen sense of color and a direct, flowing application of color. With just a few touches of color, the painter manages to construct his subjects, ensuring a remarkable freshness of execution in the landscape.

Raffaele Maietta is a painter born in 1930 in Ascoli Piceno. He is primarily focused on landscape painting, which he interprets with a very cursive and immediate technique, in keeping with post-impressionism.
