Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a research into space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then on the rendering of atmosphere in the sixteenth century; up to the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The aim of the artist Pietro Virgilio Lietti is to give a simplified interpretation of reality, in search of new values of purity in representation. For this reason, his can be defined as a naive type of pictorial attitude, which however unfolds in a very classical and traditional way of painting. His language, in fact, is substantially figurative and finds its widest realization in the traditional genres of landscape painting or still life. However, the artist manages to infuse his originality and his personal touch even into tradition, precisely through that his search for purity in representation that shapes his style. Concretely, all this unfolds in a loose technique, which resolves the subjects with few strokes, fast but incisive. The objects almost dematerialize in the lightness of the glazes. Also from a chromatic point of view, the artist tends towards decidedly light tones, full of light.
Pietro Virgilio Lietti was born in Monza in 1928. A child of art, he learned his first lessons from his father Guido, a sculptor, decorator, and teacher at Villa Reale. He lives and works in Brianza and it is above all these places that inspire the landscapes of his artistic production. His style draws inspiration above all from post-impressionist poetry.
