Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this work, Pierangelo Piazzo creates a suggestive perspective, as if the viewer were on the road, ready to enter the woods. Formally, Piazzo demonstrates his refined painting technique, combining a sober naturalism with a cursive style, with a few impressionistic strokes that lend a fresh feel to the landscape. The colors are vivid and bright. The light that breaks in from the background is striking, while the foreground remains in shadow.
Pierangelo Piazzo was a painter originally from Alba, Piedmont. He was born in 1934 and passed away in 1997. He spent much of his time in Alpignano, where he devoted himself almost exclusively to landscape painting. He was an artist who knew how to combine naturalistic depictions of views with a more lively, impressionistic touch.
