PILGRIMAGES
A pilgrimage is in itself a journey to a sacred place. Masotti's works explore the very meaning of this journey, understood as a path toward the place of the soul, a labyrinth of paths toward knowledge. Pilgrimage is the uniquely human ability to follow a spiritual need with physical action, a strong impulse toward movement, toward change. The need to understand and improve one's life.
To narrate this journey, Masotti uses road maps, which by their very nature clearly indicate itineraries to follow, or printed maps, characterized by a logical and complete geometry. After some pictorial interventions, these maps are cut into strips and reassembled in a random pattern where all reference points are lost and previous certainties are erased.
New paths, previously invisible, now appear possible, and so many distances no longer seem so unbridgeable. Chaos recomposes itself with unexpected harmony before the bewildered eyes of the traveler ready for a new journey.
The work measures 35x35 cm and is mounted on a 50x50 cm panel/frame made by the artist.
