Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Paolo De Robertis is a painter with a classical conception of landscape painting. In this painting, however, he explores a freer and more creative pictorial language. The composition, structured around a broad view, finds its spatial depth essentially in the tonal values ​​of the color. The brushstrokes are vigorously synthetic, the color applied in patches, constructing the objects with rapid, essential touches. The entire scene is bathed in clear sunlight.

Paolo De Robertis was born in Naples in 1950, where he lives and works. He remains one of the leading exponents of contemporary landscape painting. He graduated from the Art Institute and draws inspiration from the masters of Neapolitan Vedutismo. This translates into his technique, which involves an abundant use of color rather than drawing in the composition of his works.
