Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central figure in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
Otello Fabri's works are always executed with an elegant and incisive graphic style. For this artist, drawing is fundamental, and we can appreciate this in this work, where the black line builds the entire composition. This line can be thin, delineating shapes and enhancing volumes, such as that of the reclining body, whose plasticity is evident. In other cases, Fabri uses quick hatching, useful for emphasizing shadows and adding atmospheric character to the scene.
Otello Fabri was born in Terni in 1919 and passed away in 2001. His career began with the creation of architectural moldings in Terni and Rome. In the 1950s, he began painting in oils and watercolors, primarily Umbrian landscapes, soon to be joined by the recurring female nudes. In the 1970s, he specialized in graphic design in Venice. He has held exhibitions in Italy, the United States, South Africa, France, Switzerland, Greece, England, and Croatia, and his works are included in art collections worldwide.
