Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
In this series of lithographs, Orfeo Tamburi temporarily abandons his favorite subject, the urban landscape, to devote himself to another dear theme: flowers. The language, however, remains the Jesi-born artist's distinctive style, instantly recognizable in his simultaneously rough and refined lines. Tamburi's thick black line summarizes the objects with a few strokes, simultaneously characterizing them and characterizing them with curious details. In the background is the regular grid of windows, an almost essential element in this artist's work. The essentiality of the overall effect is accentuated by the subtle chromaticism, dominated by the void of white.
Orfeo Tamburi, a painter born in Jesi in 1910, trained in Paris and participated in the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadrennial. The undisputed protagonist of his work is the urban landscape, which he interprets with a textured brushstroke that gives consistency to objects, making his compositions a play of interlocking planes and volumes in perspective.
