Description of the work

This work can be included in Antonietta Corsini's extensive oeuvre of female figures immersed in poetic nature. But where this type of subject was inspired by small fragments of everyday life, in this work the theme is suggested by a refined literary and artistic reference. The figure of Ophelia's lifeless body, floating on the surface of the water, in addition to referencing Shakespeare's Hamlet, harks back to a celebrated play by the Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais. This refined reference thus further highlights the Symbolist undertones of Antonietta Corsini's pictorial style.
Artist Antonietta Corsini also specializes in watercolor, and has interpreted this technique, enhancing its characteristics in a modern and original vision. Even in her literary references, with a Symbolist flavor, the painter draws on reality and transfigures it into the intense expressionism of her watercolor technique. Reality thus becomes a total pictorial vibration with decidedly original connotations.
existential, the fruit of an exercise of pure perception on the part of the artist. From a formal point of view, all this is expressed by bringing the expressive potential of diluted color to its maximum consequences. The refined sensitivity of
Antonietta Corsini expresses herself by recording the effect of light on things, but this exercise is carried out with a strong poetic sense that shapes the representation of sensory data. Thus, the light almost dissolves the objects,
transferring them into the timeless dimension of memory. Light and color act in unison and this means enhancing the art of watercolor in a coherent representation that maintains its connection with reality, but the
transfers into a highly lyrical dimension.
