Description of the work
Description of the work
Since the years of his artistic training, David has known the artists who were the
ferment of artistic, literary and cultural currents. In 1954 he exhibited with a personal exhibition “Al
Baretto” in via del Babuino in Rome inaugurated by De Chirico, Monachesi, Tomea, Marasco and
Vangelli. Among the painted objects of the still life we find the lanterns, souvenirs of the workers in the mines on the
Monte Amiata, De Chirico's head behind a vase of flowers that does not rest on the table and a knife
The artist wants to pay homage to De Chirico, the father of metaphysics, recalling his nature
still life of 1932 "still life with knife", thus developing a connection between the two themes
artistic. If for De Chirico his still lifes were called “Silent Lives” in which the objects
they represent a silent, calm life, without noise and without movements, for David the objects
which constitute its nature are the memory, the crossing of memories like a "bridge" that
colleague. The painting is made with mixed technique and the dark black background of the wall highlights the
objects painted in orange-red. This strong contrast generates a perspective advancement towards
who observes the work, leaving them disoriented for a moment, especially due to the presence of the
statue
