Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. Throughout the centuries, the naturalistic description of landscape has been an aspiration for artists. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first through an exploration of space using Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance, then through the rendering of atmosphere in the sixteenth century, and finally with the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this artist's proof, too, we can observe the extraordinary technical skill of Michele Cascella's work. The entire structure is defined by an extremely complex hatching that gives form to objects, creates volume, measures space and, naturally, records every minute luminous and chromatic perception. The result is a composition that, in addition to demonstrating great draughtsmanship, captures the vibrations of light on objects and their interaction with the atmosphere.
Michele Cascella (Ortona 1892–Milan 1989). A painter with a distinguished career, his works are exhibited in major museums both in Italy and abroad. He experimented with numerous techniques, but reached the highest peaks of his painting with floral subjects. Cascella's painting is an investigation in its own right. He remains faithful to a naturalistic rendering, but his technique is devoted to bringing all the chromatic and luminous vibrations of the floral world onto the canvas.
