Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this lithograph, we can admire a Cascella who differs from his usual easel work. While in his oils on canvas, and indeed in much of his graphic work, Cascella always emphasizes color, full of luminous vibrations, this work is a true drawing. The structure of the work is determined by the drawing, which, moreover, demonstrates the artist's ability to create a striking seascape with rapid, concise strokes. The same ease, which enhances the work's expressiveness, is also found in the distribution of color.
Michele Cascella (Ortona 1892-Milan 1989). A painter with a remarkable career, his works are exhibited in important museums both in Italy and abroad. He experimented with numerous techniques, but his greatest achievements were with his floral subjects. Cascella's style of painting is simultaneously investigative. He remains faithful to a naturalistic approach, but his technique is dedicated to capturing all the chromatic and luminous vibrations of the floral world.
