Michele Cascella - Wheat Field

Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.

Even through this masterful work, we can see the extraordinary technical prowess of Michele Cascella's work. The entire structure is determined by an extremely complex hatching technique that gives shape to objects, creates volumes, measures space, and, of course, records every minute perception of light and color. The result is a composition that, in addition to demonstrating great drawing skill, captures the vibrations of light on objects and their interaction with the atmosphere.

Michele Cascella (Ortona 1892-Milan 1989). A painter with a remarkable career, his works are exhibited in important museums both in Italy and abroad. He experimented with numerous techniques, but his greatest achievements were with his floral subjects. Cascella's style of painting is simultaneously investigative. He remains faithful to a naturalistic approach, but his technique is dedicated to capturing all the chromatic and luminous vibrations of the floral world.
