Description of the work
Description of the work
The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.
Mauro Reggio's entire artistic output is aimed at celebrating the urban landscape, especially its most modern and technologically innovative aspects. To support this aesthetic intent, he possesses an extraordinary pictorial technique that allows him to achieve a hyper-realistic and flawless rendering of buildings. Reggio's subjects thus appear as clear volumes, untouched by atmospheric interference. Light reflects off their surfaces, and the depiction exhibits an obsessive attention to detail that makes his works even more captivating.
Mauro Reggio was born in Rome in 1971 and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown. He currently lives and works in Rocca di Papa. By the late 1990s, his work had already focused on urban landscapes. His works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows both in Italy and abroad. He has participated in the Venice Biennale several times. Other collections featuring his paintings include: the Macro collection at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome; the Farnesina Experimenta collection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the collection of the FP Michetti Foundation at the Michetti Museum; the Scuola Romana and Novecento Italiano collection of Elena and Claudio Cerasi; the Merlatti collection in Melbourne; and the Zhang Baoquan collection at the Today Art Museum in Beijing.
