Marzio Foresti - Morning Prayer

14th-century Gothic textual hand in tempera, iron gall black ink, and gold leaf on medieval vellum.l

The miniature of the prophet Isaiah is taken from a 14th-century English Psalter. The decorations are in the Franco-English style of 1300–1400.

That of Marzio Foresti, a Milanese artist, is a quest to restore the ancient that encompasses all aspects of the work. Starting with the aesthetic ones, which consist of the most precious recovery of medieval calligraphy, the art of illumination, and the heraldry of coats of arms and houses. But the passion for the medieval manuscript and high-level training have led Marzio Foresti to a complete philological operation that also involves techniques and materials. The supports are pure cotton papers, goat or sheep skins on which he draws with bamboo inkwells and goose quills. The inks are made with natural pigments, gum arabic, and egg white according to medieval techniques.
