Mario Galanti - Boat

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

The painter is very attentive to a naturalistic rendering of the landscape and possesses a confident technique that allows him to faithfully convey what he sees on the panel. The atmospheric rendering is perfect, both of the quality of the air and the humidity of the water. The objects depicted blend delicately with the surrounding space, thanks to a highly refined sfumato technique. Light permeates the entire scene, and the artist also masters the ability to diffuse the light so that it creates space and depth. The work is also very balanced compositionally.

Painter Mario Galanti was born in Naples in 1923. His style is based on a reinterpretation of the classic 19th-century Neapolitan landscape, filtered through a more dreamlike and dreamy vision. He is famous for his nocturnes of the sea and scenes of people returning from fishing.
