Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is a clear example of an expressionist landscape. Reality is interpreted in an extremely synthetic manner, with an almost brutal reduction. The surface is practically two-dimensional, with no allowance for spatial depth. The brushstrokes delineate the forms in a very tormented and nervous manner. Color is used according to an emotional and spiritual interpretation, without any connection to reality.
The style of painter Mario Fusco, in much of his work, is characterized by the development of a strongly expressionist language. The artist seeks to go beyond what is perceived by the senses to extrapolate the true essence of reality and communicate it on canvas in a lively and dramatic manner. For this reason, through the application of color, he develops a highly synthesised process that reduces his subjects to dense, material layers of paint, in which the painter's emotion also plays a leading role, conveyed through his almost brutal gestures. All these elements together constitute the expressionistic power of Mario Fusco's painting. This power is also based on a specific aesthetic choice that reaffirms the dramatic tone of his works, namely, that of favoring a dense impasto, from which the images emerge almost with difficulty, establishing a struggle with the paint.
Mario Fusco was a painter born in 1934 and died in 1987. His pictorial production is distinguished by a strongly expressionist language that emphasizes gestural expressionism and a penchant for dense textures. In other works, Mario Fusco demonstrates his experimentation with Informal aesthetics.
