Description of the work
Description of the work
The “Still Life” genre emerged at the beginning of the 17th century. It consists of depicting compositions of inanimate subjects, in most cases flowers or fruit. Although at the beginning of its history it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a naturalistic or photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art “Still Life” also becomes a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as will happen, for example, in Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the profound research on objects will be aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the simple sensory data.
In this painting Marco Paniello once again demonstrates his remarkable ability to render subjects naturalistically. The objects of the still life are represented with plastic clarity, in a very objective style. The light hits the fruit from the left, highlighting the strong plasticity of their forms and creating sudden reflections. The composition is immersed in a decontextualized, black-leaning background, but thanks to the light and its volumes, the subject creates its own space and depth.
Marco Paniello was a painter born in Verona in 1943 and passed away in Tenerife in 2005. His favorite subjects are female nudes, clowns, and artist copies. Marco Paniello always interprets his works with a soft naturalism that he is capable of thanks also to his technical skill.
