Luca Echampi - The fatigue on the face

The work draws on the poetics of the object that began to spread in European and American art during the 1950s and 1960s. Harkening back to the readymade of Dadaist memory, a new wave of groups or movements repurposed everyday objects as works of art. The object, a finished product, belonging to tangible reality, enters the work of art, while the work, through the object, invades the observer's real space.

Luca Echampi's artistic production focuses on the recovery of industrial waste: in this case, transmission chains from old vintage bicycles. The artist's aim is to relocate the object, recontextualizing it through his intervention. And we can see how Luca Echampi's work has succeeded in this direction. The transmission chain, in his hands, becomes a malleable material, almost like modeling clay. From this modeling emerge precise, anthropomorphic forms: faces with their own personality and sculptural consistency.
