Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Ligato's artistic language undoubtedly refers to reality objectively, without interposing interpretations of any kind. Thus, his style is characterized by a remarkable formal purity, which is especially evident in the precision of his drawing. The form of objects is in no way affected by pictorial effects (as is especially evident in the objects placed in the foreground), thanks also to the compactness of the color, which extends across broad, harmonious bands of vibrant, brilliant hues.

Ligato is a painter who practices primarily the landscape genre through an objective language that he applies to a classical vision of landscape painting.
