Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a research into space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then on the rendering of atmosphere in the sixteenth century; up to the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The aim of the artist Leli is to give a simplified interpretation of reality, in search of new values of purity in representation. For this reason, his can be defined as a naive type of pictorial attitude, which however unfolds in a very classical and traditional way of painting. His language, in fact, is substantially figurative and finds its widest realization in the traditional genre of landscape views. However, the artist manages to infuse his originality and personal touch even into tradition, precisely through that search for purity in representation that shapes his style. Concretely, all this unfolds in a loose technique, which resolves the subjects with a few strokes, fast but incisive. The objects almost dematerialize in the lightness of the glazes. Even from a chromatic point of view, the artist tends towards decidedly light tones, full of light.
Both for the choice of subjects and for the mode of execution, we can say that the artist Leli moves in the territory of a classical and figurative production, showing, however, a certain naive attitude in composing his works. The will to seek lightness and simplicity in representation is evident, with the aim of imbuing the work of art with primordial values of purity and innocence.
