Ropes, chains, or bands bind the works in this cycle. The artist sees bonds as a need for belonging, a necessary condition of our social life, and a natural consequence of love expressed in all its forms. But the fear of loneliness can blind our hearts to the point of making us mistake and accept a sick love for a true love, a master for a father, or a prison for a welcoming home. We can bind ourselves to an idea until it becomes an ideology and a doctrine, we can bind ourselves to a dream until it becomes an obsession, we can bind ourselves to a faith until it conditions our life, we can bind ourselves to a love until it becomes a possession.
Masotti wants us to reflect on how those same ropes that bind us to each other, the same bands that protect us, the same chains that create an iron shield around us can transform into instruments of torture and imprisonment simply if we didn't choose them.
