Description of the work
Description of the work
Let us reread the work in the light of John 4:5-42, Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well.
The woman and the vase have been represented through the use of rags and stitching that highlight their lines and shapes.
The Samaritan woman is allowing herself to be shaped by the Word of her interlocutor.
The episode tells us that the woman, exceeding her limits, abandons her vessel there.
That abandoned vessel was used to collect and serve water that satisfies, only and for a certain period, the body's thirst: that vessel is no longer useful.
That abandoned vessel is the old man who gives way to the new man, the man who seeks water that quenches his thirst for eternity, that regenerates him and makes him a new creature, that pushes him beyond his limits, transforming himself into a source of water that gushes forth to eternal life.
We are all patched up and battered vessels, we all need to learn to look at ourselves with new eyes.
A beam of light rises above the vase: is it Grace that fills it or is it the Light that flows out to testify to the greatness of God?
Everyone can be that vessel and give themselves their own personal answer.
