Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and pure colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.
Mirò's style is characterized by a playful and vibrant surrealism. The process of abstraction is pushed to the limit, resulting in the formation of biomorphic entities that float within the composition as if in amniotic fluid. There is a veritable regression in representation toward infantile or primitive modes. This is what Mirò seeks to achieve powerfully primary forms of expression and engage them in his playfulness. The contribution of color is fundamental, and for the Catalan painter, it is the key component in achieving the lively character that distinguishes his works.
Joan Miró was born in Barcelona in 1893 and died in Palma de Mallorca in 1983. He was a painter, sculptor, and ceramist, one of the most important representatives of Surrealism, which he expressed in his own personal abstract and biomorphic language. His training took place primarily in Paris, where he moved in 1920. He initially frequented the Dadaists, from whom he derived the playful spirit that characterizes all his work. He later became one of the most radical theorists of Surrealism, experimenting with various artistic forms, such as lithography, etching, and sculpture, as well as painting on tar paper and glass.
