INNOCENCE - Series I - No. XV

INNOCENCE is a collection of 46 paintings divided into three categories:
17 oil paintings on canvas, 19 oil paintings and photo-luminescent pigment on galvanized sheet metal, and 10 black and white paintings also on galvanized sheet metal, all depicting the authentic expressions of children.
This project is a tribute to the photographers, both international and otherwise, who have captured Cortona's attention and inspiration over the years.
The collection originated between 2015 and 2016 with Series I, painted on canvas, dedicated to the full figure of the child but focused mainly on the gaze, thus interrupting the attention on the little ones' faces.
In 2017, with Series II and III, Cortona revolutionized not only the technique and the artistic medium, replacing the cotton canvases with galvanized sheet metal cut to size and personally prepared by the artist, but also redefined the very meaning of art itself, considering it as a powerful tool for healing.
This project was an introspective and spiritual journey for Cortona, which led the artist to focus exclusively on the children's gaze, shifting attention to the expressiveness of their eyes, considered as the visible nest of the inner Light present in each individual.
Through the use of photoluminescent pigments, Cortona aims to emanate and remind that the inner light is always present, even in the darkness.
The innovative use of photoluminescent pigments, which have the ability to self-illuminate in the dark after being exposed to light, has become a key element and source of inspiration for many of the artist's other works.
