Description of the work
Description of the work
The nonprofit organization I Care operates in Uganda through the Congregation of the Eucharistic Handmaids of Melito di Napoli and in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Tororo to support the Ugandan and Indonesian people. It is a Phlegraean project born from the goodwill of a group of friends from the Church of San Vitale in Fuorigrotta to support Sister Giuseppina Boscato, the Neapolitan nun who moved to Uganda 25 years ago to start the mission. The non-profit organization builds wells to improve the quality of life for children, who are not forced to walk for miles with heavy jerry cans, for women who are able to more easily care for their families, and for men who can more easily cultivate the land. It takes care of the needs of the Mulagi mission, where a medical facility is located that functions as a laboratory, dispensary, and outpatient clinic, and where an operating room is currently under construction. The facility has approximately 15,000 visits a year and also provides vaccinations and health education. It promotes education by rebuilding dilapidated schools and supports the vocational training school in Mulagi, where around 200 girls attend boarding school, and the nursery school in Kampala. At the Ruteng mission in Indonesia, a warehouse has been renovated where the nuns welcome children from poor families and offer them breakfast. It deals with the social reintegration of young refugees in the Soroti district of Uganda by reintegrating them into their villages of origin. The funds needed to support these many activities are raised through events such as dinner shows and theatrical performances, markets, lotteries, and donations. The proceeds are sent directly to the structures without intermediaries and the activity carried out by the Friends of the Onlus is free of charge.
The proceeds from this work go to the mission's medical dispensary which helps village women give birth.
