A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject in the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes and equestrian monuments, and painters have always found it a challenge to depict it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering.

The work was composed with an extremely elegant graphic technique. The figures are outlined with a thin line that highlights every detail, both physiognomic and volumetric. The figures' plasticity is further enhanced by the hatching that highlights the subjects' shadows. A certain tendency to elongate the figures' proportions is noticeable.
