Giuseppe Matichecchia - Venetian Corner

In Giuseppe Matichecchia's artistic production, it's as if Arte Povera had merged with Caravaggism. The artist proposes a refined aesthetic based on humble everyday objects, in which compositions of rags or other artifacts stand out against neutral spaces. Light illuminates the objects dramatically, making them emerge from the darkness as concrete and immanent visions. Formally, we are obviously in the realm of illusionistic realism, but Matichecchia, with great personality and remarkable technique, knows how to construct his representations with a soft and gentle touch, capable of creating a suffused atmosphere in which the clarity of the complete and perfect forms is subtly eroded, lending vitality and dynamism even to the inanimate object. In this way, Matichecchia creates a truly existentialist poetics of things.
