Giuseppe Grisinelli - Staircase

The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.

The style of painter Giuseppe Grisinelli is extremely recognizable. His composition is rigorous, always drawn with clear strokes that indicate clear, almost geometric volumes. His use of color, however, reshapes everything. His brushstrokes consist of such light glazes that they transfigure all the gray he had previously constructed, rendering the subjects immaterial. Thus, the surface of the painting resolves itself in a delightful interplay of nuances and overlapping tones. A game that Grisinelli always manages with elegance and balance.

Giuseppe Grisinelli is a Syracusan painter born in 1931. He focuses primarily on traditional genres such as landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. However, he has developed his own distinctive pictorial style, based on light, transparent washes of color, highly creative and elegant.
