Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations of artists in every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a study of space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then with the rendering of atmosphere in the sixteenth century; and finally with the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this work, Giorgio Ciacci highlights his mature Post-Impressionist style. The composition is entirely constructed through color, and the brushstrokes have a remarkable structural value. The painter's aim is not to reproduce the sensory data of the landscape, but to capture its very essence, its substance. To this end, he uses a thick, textured brushstroke which, despite the simplicity of the representation, breaks down space into different planes, recording the vibrations of light and life on the subject. Thus, on a substantially two-dimensional surface, flattened in the foreground, the objects are constructed by the painter with large, color-dense brushstrokes, while the houses are structured according to geometric principles inspired by Cézanne. Chromatically, the entire surface of the work is harmonized according to a balanced range of colors, echoes, and correspondences.
Giorgio Ciacci was born in San Costanzo di Pesaro in 1921, but moved to Senigallia during his childhood. In 1950, he graduated in etching from the Istituto del Libro in Urbino and held his first exhibition that same year. From that point on, he became the protagonist of an intense exhibition activity not only in Italy but also abroad. Many of his works are held in public and private collections in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Finland, Switzerland, the former Yugoslavia, and the United States.
