Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting depicts a coastal landscape, focusing on a fishing hut with its characteristic scale-shaped nets. The painter gives ample space to the calm body of water and the leaden sky above. The scene evokes a profound sense of solitude and silence, typical of fishing areas during moments of atmospheric stillness.
The work adopts a post-impressionist style characterized by broad, flat, textured brushstrokes that define the forms in a synthetic manner. The palette is dominated by cool, desaturated tones (grays, light blues, and dark greens), enlivened by touches of ochre on the structures and a skillful use of light reflecting on the water. The application is rapid and decisive, prioritizing the rendering of the melancholic atmosphere and chromatic temperature over descriptive detail.
Gino Rocca (born in Bologna in 1934) is a painter and photographer who began his artistic career at a very young age, working mainly in the Emilian capital.
He has exhibited his works in important national and international exhibitions, including the Centre Groupment Artistes Peintres in Paris and the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, receiving prestigious awards such as the Leonardo Da Vinci Prize in Rome. His artistic exploration spans various techniques, from oil and acrylic to printmaking, distinguished by a figurative language capable of sensitively capturing both the landscape and the human figure.
