Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been a constant aspiration for painters. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a study of space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then with the rendering of atmosphere in the sixteenth century; and finally with the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Gino Guidi, as we can appreciate from his works, demonstrates an extraordinary painting technique based, first and foremost, on a solid structure determined by the application of color. It is precisely through this framework that the artist manages to achieve a very high level of precision in the details in an exquisitely realistic interpretation of the subjects. The painterly application is a testament to the high technical quality of Gino Guidi's paintings. His touch is soft, made up of light glazes through which he manages to perfectly blend the objects into the space in an atmosphere of great tonal coherence. Light is therefore called upon to further unify the pictorial surface, giving rise to a skillful direction used by the artist in distributing the shadows. Gino Guidi's palette is also consistent with his aesthetic through the adoption of a highly realistic and naturalistic chromaticism.
Gino Guidi was a painter from Livorno, born in 1914 and passed away in 2000. Born into a family of artists, Gino felt a vocation for painting from a young age. A painter of a high classical spirit, he devoted himself mainly to the landscape genre, drawing inspiration from the Macchiaioli movement. His first exhibitions date back to the 1960s; since then, several important exhibitions have followed: his solo exhibitions in 1970 at the "Stefanini" Art Gallery and in 1974 at the "Romiti" Art Gallery; participation in various editions of the Rotonda Prize (Livorno); various editions of the Livorno Naval Academy Exhibitions (1st Prize, Silver and Gold Cups); group exhibitions at the "Il Bottegone" Art Gallery in Sesto San Giovanni (MI); participation in the 6th "Piazzetta" Prize in Sesto San Giovanni (MI); group exhibition at Villa Casati (Merate) related to the theme "Merate and Brianza"; participation in the "Primavera 1970" group exhibition (Rome selection, Cultural Activities, "Artinformazione" organization); participation by invitation in the 1st Brunellesco Prize, Florence 1970; European Biennial "Dubrovnik 1970".
